This building, situated in Poznań in Garbary Street 96, is usually referred to as Krzyżanowski’s Pavilion (Polish: Pawilon Krzyżanowskiego). As the name suggests it was built by Antoni Krzyżanowski (1808-1895), who was many things: a carpenter, an uprising soilder, a construction supervisor, a lecturer, a factory owner… The Pavilion was constructed relatively late in his life, when he was already an owner of a successful company producing decorative moldings. The building housed his offices, but its exterior reflects its other purpose. It was meant to fulfill a function similar to a billboard, or more accurately to serve as a 3D, to-scale catalog of the factory’s most popular and well-renowned products. In other words, the building was meant to catch the eye of the passing denizens of Poznań and to showcase the best products of the factory.
