Moldova will attempt to become a member of the EU by 2020

No. I was thinking about internal EU processing only. There is no intent to grant a candidate status to Moldova right now and it have taken more than six years for Romania, Croatia, et cetera to join.

Only three countries could realistically join EU in 2020: Iceland, Serbia, Montenegro.
Maybe Albania, but they haven't started the negotiations yet.

How's Public Transit in Europe really like?

Daily commute starting with 10 km ride on a bike. From train station 100 km ride in small electric train. (75 m long, always clean, with good air conditioning) Another 7.5 km ride on a bike , passing a llama, gets me to the work.
Costs about 100 € a month including few spare bike parts. Obvious drawback is riding in the rain.

Azumanga Daioh

Azumanga Daioh isn't accessible for general audience. Unless you are already familiar with multiple anime series you can have trouble with identifying the girls with ease, even distinguishing between girls and adult women.
It's great, most consistent source of lightweight heartwarming humor I know, but definitely not for anime beginners.

Severe material deprivation rates, 2011-13 - % of population

refers to a state of economic strain and durables, defined as the enforced inability (rather than the choice not to do so) to pay unexpected expenses, afford a one-week annual holiday away from home, a meal involving meat, chicken or fish every second day, the adequate heating of a dwelling, durable goods like a washing machine, colour television, telephone or car, being confronted with payment arrears (mortgage or rent, utility bills, hire purchase instalments or other loan payments)
  • to pay their rent, mortgage or utility bills;
  • to keep their home adequately warm;
  • to face unexpected expenses;
  • to eat meat or proteins regularly;
  • to go on holiday;
  • a television set;
  • a washing machine;
  • a car;
  • a telephone.
Severe material deprivation rate is defined as the enforced inability to pay for at least four of the above-mentioned items.

My favorite is Mr. Blobby  and the most popular such song is probably Tunak Tunak Tun .

How does the European Parliament actually work?

"Barosso I" is real name of EC working in years 2004-2009 .
Back to the issue how does EP work. The rules of this institution are unique. The EP does not have the classic parliamentary clubs. These groups consisting of MEPs from different countries. The practice of recent years shows that the most important decisions are taken votes of the three largest groups. Currently in the following order: the European People's Party (EPP - Christian Democrats), the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (social democracy, in short the S & D) and the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe.
It is these three political families among them, the most important positions (chairpersons and Vice-Presidents of Parliament, heads of committees, Quaestors, chairmen and vice-chairmen of foreign delegations, etc.). Posts are allocated by d'Hondt, ie the number of fractions, which especially favors the EPP and S&D.
Just as important (and maybe even more importantly) analogous rules apply to the allocation of tasks, especially when writing reports, on the basis of which the European parliament will vote in the process of EU law.
Here one caveat: reports are uneven! There are reports of great importance for EU citizens (eg regulations on European funds or telecommunications charges) , there are also reports being a formality , having no impact on EU law (eg, a report on the discharge that has no meaning and repeated every year formality).
Such rules have their real consequences .
The activity real and simulated. Once again the European Parliament affect the EU reality through legislation, to modify the shape of the directives and regulations, particularly those relating to economic matters. In this area, the EP has simply the most real power. Changes in the law are made in the course of work of committees, the position of the Parliament is expressed in the reports and then voted on at the plenary.
There are MEPs with tens of discharge reports on their accounts. You can in fact countless times deliver one-minute speech in front of an empty room (yes, in practice it looks) - and will not reach any result.
However, you can enter one additional line to the text, such as telecommunications directive, and then get majority support in Parliament for the correction - and so affect the lives of millions of Europeans. But in order to do this, you must be a member rapporteur on the key issue.
Having divided among themselves the most important positions and jobs, the largest fractions give other factions less important positions (when it comes to real power) - but sometimes prestigious.
An example of such a prestigious area in which real power is limited, it may be foreign policy. The European Parliament is very active in this field, but do not have the power to make binding decisions. This does not affect the reality as much as it can do so in the case of such economic legislation, the internal market. This of course does not mean that the involvement of MEPs in the foreign policy in general is invalid. Especially in the context of recent events in Ukraine can be seen that the activity of the European Parliament in this field has its value, for example, by the fact that a PE can demonstrate European solidarity with Ukraine. It is merely to highlight the fact that in this regard the EP is not a "decision-making".

Why do Poles praise one military dictator who killed hundreds and hate another, which wasn't really bloodthirsty at all.
He recognized his mistake at attempt to build humane socialism and agree for transition of the country to became the first president of "free" Poland.

Are coalitions possible in the European parliamentary elections?

There will be no coalition, even more due to lack of common European campaign MEPs have little incentive to vote as a block and often votes within the fractions are split.

Eurovision song contest

Sure, this is one night affair, but people like to watch the spectacle together in groups: families, friends, or just bar customers of the particular bar.
People discuss the contest in the media and in private every year. It's a non-sport spectacle with largest audience in the history of planet.
It can be really fun and epic TV show. I particularly liked 2011 opening of the final .
The Swedish eliminations  are worthy sideshow by itself.
BTW, it's much better to watch whole show than just one or two competing songs.

Are Russians capable of developing their own warships?

No they are not. Not only they don't have such ships, but USSR was getting amphibious warfare ships from abroad.
Largest such ships made in Russia are Zubr-class . They carry 140 soldiers and Russian Federation has two of them.

  1. Watch out for very possessive and controlling guys.
  2. Monitor his jealousy and insecurity levels.
  3. Be aware of violence or threats of violence.
  4. Don't get taken in by the way he cries and rationalizes his behavior.
  5. Notice if he tries to remove you from public places in order to abuse you.
  6. Notice if he belittles you all the time.
  7. Watch how he talks to or about your parents or your friends.
  8. Be aware of him trying to make you feel guilty.
  9. Look for patterns.
Tips
  • Sometimes, he will accuse you of not loving him. Do not be fooled. This is merely a tactic to make you feel guilty and to stay with him.
  • If you tell him that you do not tolerate this behavior and he apologizes one minute and then blames you the next, then he is not sincere. It is time to move on.
  • If a man hits you, go. He's got the pattern. There will be a second time, a third time, a fourth time, a hundredth time, until you leave, or die. Get out of there.
  • Have a safe place to go away to and it should not be a place he can find you, and should be a place that is neutral, where he has no access.
  • When you tell him it's over, make sure to do it in a place where you can be seen, but not necessarily heard, by other people. The last thing you want is to get abused as a result of trying to stop the abuse, and he will be less likely to try anything in a public area.
  • Keep a copy of important keys and documents in a place where only you can find them so that if you need to make a quick escape you are not locked in the house and have access to your car and passport etc.
  • If you decide to leave him then you must do so and break all ties and communication with him. It is the only way you can successfully move on. He must respect this. He must leave you alone if you request it.
  • Edit: Oops, sorry for unrelated comment. Obviously isn't relevant to behavior of any current or former Russian officials.

Is Ukraine part of Europe or not?

Drawing "Europe" on the map without territory of Ukraine is a silly exercise and nothing you would end with could be called a continent.
Besides Ukrainian culture  is epitome of europeanness

Russia writes off 90 percent of North Korea debt, eyes gas pipeline

They are going to pump natural gas into the northern end of the pipeline and expect it to flow out of the southern end, in North Korea.
To realize how much hungry of resources North Korea is see compost production competition , rare competition in collecting of human excrement. BTW, natural gas is excellent component for production of fertilizers.
Besides North Korea is the most unreliable country on Earth. When China, its only benefactor at the time, sent it emergency aid North Korea stole the train carrying it.

Has your opinion of Russia changed pre- and post Crimean occupation?

I'm not sure if any UN member state have ever gained a territory by conquest, but I would associate this behavior with Idi Amin or Kadhafi, if I had to guess.
I never expected Russia to respect its treaties, but to formally fulfill international law, especially how much cheaper it would be not to invade Crimea. There was no strong anti-Ukrainian sentiment nor threat for Russian interests in Ukraine, AFAIK. This was like invasion of Afghanistan, today.

Mafia?

Why does everybody hate The Mysterious Mare Do Well?

What I dislike about the episode is the fact that the 5 are humiliating Rainbow Dash at all. This is out of character behavior of worst kind. This isn't a friendship, but some kind of toxic relationship. As far as we know she wasn't harming anybody, so the 5 was suppressing RD for acting outside of social standard. Imagine bulling FS for being shy and spending lots of time with animals, or TS for reading too many books, etc.

Which episodes should I watch if I want to get into MLP?

Start from the beginning.
  • It gives you time for adjustment to character design. While animation in MLP is seamless and fluent most of the time you may be unaccustomed to animated creatures in general or this type of them.
  • The series popularity derives from gentle character development, for me at least. I can say that I like everypony from Mane 6, because they all had some episodes focused on them.
  • The show is partially chronological. All episodes opening/closing seasons were happening in their screening sequence.

The "child cured of HIV" sounds catchy, but it's not significant. This therapy shouldn't work for most of infected population and cannot stop a reinfection.

What does "Rainbow Power" mean?

It's the theme of the line of merchandise for this year. Last year was 'Crystal Empire', which tied in with season 3. Rainbow Power is suspected to somehow tie in with Season 4, but mostly ties in with the next Equestria Girls movie, Rainbow Rocks.
This pretty much means that the toy ponies will be decked out in rainbow-y tattoos (much like Stinky Pete à la Barbie at the end of Toy Story 2) for the rest of 2014.

No female bronies?

One thing to consider is how bad American female-oriented cartoons really were. Lauren Faust:
I assigned my ponies and my Strawberry Shortcake dolls distinctive personalities and sent them on epic adventures to save the world. On TV, though, I couldn’t tell one girl character from another and they just had endless tea parties, giggled over nothing and defeated villains by either sharing with them or crying–which miraculously inspired the villain to turn nice.
I guess that "cartoons aren't for girls" was somewhat true.

You're a middle aged man, why are you a brony?

Likeable characters, the stories are mostly well written, the animation is pretty good, voice acting is very good, it is fun. I like the positive message Which resonate with me. Hell, before MLP I haven't even liked pink color.
BTW, I cannot explain where this resonance is coming from. I've watched plenty of anime, but I find the best anime less attractive than MLP. When I was few episodes into MLP it struck me that there was already animated series under this name in the 80s. It's mind boggling how much better Friendship is Magic really is.
P.S. In anime there are examples of different "mismatch" where non-violent, non-sexual series for adult men are accessible for little girls, like Ah! My Goddess.
tldr: Friendship is Magic

Slow the moon, embraced by shadow,
Climbs the hilly clouds of night
And upon the cheerless meadow
Sadly pours its pallid light.

Down the road, as white and eerie
As the wintry, boundless lea,
Runs my troika, and the weary
Sleigh-bell jangles drowsily.
In the driver's song unending
Much is there that speaks to me,
Now a plaint, my spirit rending,
Now a reckless gaiety...
*
All around is snow, and nothing,
Not a light to cheer the eye;
Mileposts rush to meet me, nodding
As they pass indifferent by.

    A multiHIV fusion gene expressing an antigenic fusion protein composed of regulatory HIV-1 proteins Rev, Nef, and Tat, as well as Gag p17/p24 and a stretch of 11 cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) epitope clusters from Pol and Env, was cloned into a novel DNA vector named the Gene Transport Unit (GTU). A mouse H-2(d)-restricted HIV-1 gp120 epitope (RGPGRAFVTI) was cloned into the fusion gene as well. In addition to the HIV- 1 genes the GTU codes for a nuclear anchoring protein (bovine papilloma virus E2), ensuring the long maintenance of the vector and a high expression level of the selected immunogens. BALB/c mice were immunized with the GTU-MultiHIV DNA construct by different routes and regimens of immunization to assess the immunogenicity of the DNA vaccine in vivo. Mice developed strong CD8(+) CTL responses to HIV-1 Env and Gag measured by an ELISPOT-IFN-gamma assay and chromium release assay. In addition, T cell responses to regulatory proteins Rev, Nef, and Tat were induced. Antibody responses were detected to each of the HIV antigens encoded by the DNA construct. Minimal doses of the GTU-MultiHIV DNA delivered by gene gun were potent in inducing significant HIV-specific CTL responses. The equivalent doses of the conventional plasmid expressing MultiHIV DNA delivered by gene gun failed to do so. An ideal DNA vaccine should yield high expression of the viral antigens for a prolonged period of time, and expression of the multiple viral antigens is probably required for the induction of a broad and protective immune response. The GTU-MultiHIV DNA vaccine described is a good vaccine candidate that meets the above criteria.
    They even don't find it necessary to divide it into paragraphs.
